Dagwood's Tavern, established in 1947 by Derwood Root in Lansing, Michigan, near Michigan State University, has a rich history as a local gathering spot. Originally a local bar named Nim’s, it was renamed for its more memorable connection to the comic strip character, Dagwood. The building, dating back to 1901, features a unique architectural style with interior elements resembling exterior designs. A favored spot among politicians, auto workers, and sports fans, particularly when East Lansing was a dry city, Dagwood's is renowned for its made-to-order hamburgers and hand-cut fries.
