Today in Michigan History: Michigan Panthers Win USFL Championship
Today in 1983, the Michigan Panthers won the first USFL Championship in Denver, Colorado against the Philadelphia Stars. The league had started in response to a strike in the NFL.
It was Detroit's first championship since the Tigers won in 1968, and the first football championship since 1958, when the Lions won.
