CATCH (Caring Athletes Team for Children’s and Henry Ford Hospitals) is a children’s charity founded in 1987 by then Detroit Tigers Manager Sparky Anderson that raises money to help improve the quality of life for sick, vulnerable, and economically disadvantaged children in Detroit.
Even after Sparky’s passing in 2010, CATCH remains a jewel in the community as it helps pediatric patients from Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Henry Ford Hospital whose special needs might otherwise fall through the cracks. Donations to CATCH are as critical now than ever before as the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent negative economic impact has created increased needs for pediatric patients and their families.
Whether it be to help with utility or rent payments, household appliances and furniture, meal assistance or assisting with transportation to and from the hospital, CATCH funds items and services that parents cannot afford, are not provided by the hospitals, and not covered by insurance.

CATCH funds are an important resource for Children’s Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital where at least 75 percent of patients and families that CATCH assists are in the low- and moderate-income level.
