In 1925, Michigan Agricultural College became Michigan State College and sponsored a contest to replace their "Aggies" nickname. Not liking the winning name of "The Michigan Staters", the sports editor of the Lansing State Journal chose "The Spartans" instead.
The name took and in 1984, Sigma Phi Epsilon introduced the first Gruff Sparty.
Super soft heather gray & dark green tri-blend (50/25/25). Designed in Michigan by The Mitten State. Officially licensed by Michigan State University.
All TMS apparel is designed with vintage blends and slimmer fits than traditional garments. The women's shirts in particular run snug, so if in doubt, order a size up. Also refer to the sizing charts on every product page (click on the link next to the drop down menu). For comparison's sake, note that the Women's XL shirt is slightly smaller than the Unisex S.
