About This Design:

Designed in Michigan | Made in USA | The MItten StateWe love 1970s serif style fonts.  Seriously.  We collect them like most people collect books and movies.  For this Grand Rapids shirt, we had a purely typographical design in mind, one that would convey a little bit of movement and flow in honor of the Grand River.  The trick for us was not upsetting the original font to the point that it was unrecognizable.  Check out the Grand Rapids World Record Lip Dub video (can you spot the TMS shirts?).

In 1836 John Ball, representing a group of New York land speculators, bypassed Detroit for a better deal in Grand Rapids. Ball declared the Grand River valley "the promised land, or at least the most promising one for my operations." Once known as the furniture capital of the USA, GR was the first to infuse fluoride into its water, a fitting innovation for a city bisected by the Grand River. Designed in Michigan. Made in the USA.
