About Us
The Mitten State is a Michigan apparel company celebrating everything that makes our home state an awesome place to live or have lived. Co-founded by Michiganders Will Bransdorfer and Mike O'Rourke in 2006, The Mitten State incorporates the symbols, events, and people that fit into our perspective of Michigan. We believe that Michigan has its own unique story and subculture, one that serves to unify us across the state in an era otherwise strife with polarization.
TMS apparel is inspired by Michigan lifestyle / culture. Our designs are reminiscent of 1970s and 1980s era graphic art. The line is comprised primarily of vintage t-shirts and for good reason: there's nothing quite like a soft, well fitting t-shirt. Driven by a passion to create the best vintage inspired Michigan shirts around, we've built our company on the premise that our products should reflect the qualities that make our state and its citizens great.
Working from our design studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we strive to release products in limited quantities that reflect the Michigan story: where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed. More than just an apparel company, The Mitten State is a project reflective of the community and culture of Michigan, its uniqueness and its fanbase.
From the Upper Peninsula down to our Southern-most border, we hope to represent as much of Michigan as possible and even help a little along the way: every purchase sees a portion donated to local charities.
